Identity and Trauma: the centenary of the Marsica earthquake read in a psychodynamic key

The history of modern Marsica unfolds on two basic events: the drying up of Lake Fucino and the earthquake of '15. Events totally dissimilar between rsz 17128rkdjexl sl1500 2-1them, for the elementary consideration that the first was the work of man (politician, administrator or entrepreneur who was) and the second was the work of nature. But these two events, moreover temporally close, conferred perhaps a unique relief to the territory that had been subject to it, and despite their etiological diversity, they presented two mirror effects: an upheaval of identities and a loss of the memory of the roots (G. Nicoli). In this seminar we will propose an a posteriori psychodynamic reading of the events from the end of the 800th century to the beginning of the 900th century, attempting to size the impact of these on the population of the Abruzzo hinterland.

SNEG PROJECT

Special Needs Equality Generator - С.Н.Е.Г.

Research "Zaboravljena deca Srbija"Of June 2021 returns a worrying image of residential institutions for people with disabilities or special needs in Serbia, a country in which the human rights of children and adults with disabilities are not observed, which manifests itself in poor care, inappropriate use of pharmacological approach, violation of reproductive rights, deprivation of the right to live in the family and segregation. Furthermore, people with disabilities are subject to stigma and psychosocial obstacles which negatively affect their social inclusion.

the project will be implemented with our Serbian partners

with whom we have collaborated in the past for the realization of a first project to support de-institutionalization:

"A special life for special needs".

OBJECTIVE: to contribute to the increase of the well-being and social inclusion of people with special needs and their families.

  • forms of prevention and protection

a workshop will be held for parents of people with disabilities to encourage forms of positive support in the family context. The beneficiaries of the Naša Kuća center will participate in a music therapy course.

  • thematic tables and final workshop

the involvement of socio-medical and academic staff from the two countries will allow the Italy - Serbia exchange of up-to-date clinical and social assistance tools and models.

For the success of the de-institutionalization process currently underway in Serbia, it is very important to work on the empowerment of day centers, care associations for people with disabilities to ensure and strengthen the presence of these alternative models. At the same time it is necessary to spread the exchange of innovative practices within the services themselves to support the social inclusion of people with special needs.

Are you interested in developing inclusive support models for people with disabilities and want to spend a volunteer period in Belgrade?

The SNEG Project is looking for two volunteers to offer support to the Naša Kuća Day Center. We ask for continuity, interest in the topic, ability to adapt, good knowledge of the English language, basic computer skills.

PSYCHOLOGY OF EMERGENCY

because psychological well-being is a right of every person

Some of the people who participated in the establishment of PsyPlus Onlus had already experienced the tragedy of the emergency professionally or personally. Several of us have matured their interest in the subject having known closely the catastrophe of the earthquake in L'Aquila and its surroundings, in 2009. The event that instead marked the start of our operations in the field of emergency psychology is Instead, it was the earthquake that hit a large part of Central Italy in August 2016. Since then, knowing how to stay in an emergency and knowing how to operate effectively to contain its traumatic impact, has become an important part of our mission.

  • Tomas e Terremoto tells the perspective of a child in the presence of the Earthquake, an “ineluctable and unpredictable” giant that “shakes and devastates”. Kanjano's pencil has grasped the fundamental aspects of what operators and psychologists have been able to observe in three years of field work, from emergency to post-emergency, from the Sibillini and Laga mountains to the Marche coast, always alongside the most affected populations. .

Earthquake 2016: two years later

Two years ago a strong earthquake struck central Italy. On the night of August 24, our psychologists were present in Amatrice for the memorial ceremony for the victims. Under the awning set up in the square, where the hotel-school stood, we proceeded with the reading of some stories related to the earthquake. At the end, a torchlight procession headed towards the church of Sant'Agostino, in front of which the names of all the Amatrician victims of the earthquake were read. At 3.36 am the bells ring, one for each deceased. Silence.

Central Italy earthquake - since August 2016, psychological support and community empowerment

On the night of 24 August 2016, after a series of seismic events in the provinces of Rieti, Ascoli Piceno and Perugia, a 6.0 magnitude quake with its epicenter in the municipality of Accumoli caused 299 deaths and 388 injuries. Since 25 August 2016 Psy + Onlus has been present in the camp set up in Accumoli, making itself available, together with INTERSOS to ensure professional interventions in support of people who have suffered the earthquake, as well as their rescuers, through the constant presence of 2-4 volunteers in the Accumoli camp and the activation of a traveling team in charge of visiting the most isolated hamlets.

Central Italy earthquake, psychological support and community empowerment in numbers

On June 16, 2018, the "Let's reconstruct people" project ended with the "Festa dell'Arrivederci" in the Accumoli sports field, where it all started on August 25, 2016, after the earthquake in central Italy had upset the local communities . Since then there has been work, projects, effort but above all the construction of a special relationship with a wounded but tenacious and resilient community. From the psychological first aid intervention in the field set up by the Civil Protection in Accumoli, to the listening, orientation and support activities provided in San Benedetto del Tronto, to the subsequent accompaniment of the beneficiaries in the places of origin of Accumoli and Amatrice, we have continuously offered psychological counseling, psycho-pedagogical and community empowerment services, also taking care of the little ones with artistic-expressive workshops and summer camps.
